Ice Machine Maintenence & Tips
Cleaning tips
Good air circulation will shorten the running time of the condenser fan which will keep condenser from getting dirty as quickly. Use a vacuum cleaner while brushing up and down with a fin brush. Use air pressure to get the dirt and dust out. My method of cleaning. If covered with grease, you need to have it cleaned professionally by a serviceman with a strong chemical degreaser cleaner.
Self cleaning
The water overflows from the sump when the water pump shuts off. On newer machines, a water solenoid dump valve opens and the pump dumps the sump water down the drain. This is the self-cleaning process. This is what flushes the impurities out and helps keep the machine clean between maintenance cleanings.
Maintenance cleanings
Follow the manufactory instruction on cleaning inside the front cover.
If you can't find them then here are the basic steps.
Turn the toggle switch to clean. Empty the bin of ice. Follow the instruction on the sanitizer bottle. You will be using a sanitizer in the machine much more often then a cleaner. If you ever do use a cleaner make sure you use one that is made for that machine. Most machines require cleaners that are nickel-safe. Most evaporators has a nickel plating on it and using the improper cleaner can remove or damage the plating.
Follow the instructions on the bottle! Remember to completely flush the water/cleaner mixture out of the reservoir 3 or 4 times. Then rinse the bin out completely. Dump some hot water on to melt the first batch of ice.
Remember that cleaning and sanitizing products are two different things.
